How to exclude your IP address to get a better balanced set of statistics, without the excess from your IP address.
No doubt you visit your website more than anyone else. With all that blogging and amendment of page content, required to keep the website alive with fresh content.
So your IP address appears disproportionality in Google’s analytics.
The exclusion can be added through a filter of the results
You can find the public IP address you are currently using by searching what is my ip address on Google. Other sites are available.
The value given as your public IP address will be used later.
To implement the filter login to your Google Analytics account.
To create your new filter
- Click on the admin page view, for the domain which you wish to add the filter
- On the 3rd column (View) click on Filters
- Click on Add Filter at the top of the list
- give the filter a name, for example “Exclude Own IP Address“
- Select filter type as predefined and set the three drop down lists to:
- Exclude
- Traffic from the IP Addresses
- That are equal to
- In the IP address box add your IP address.
- Click on save
- The filter will be added to the list.
After adding the filter return to your website analytics results
Filters are applied in the order which they are assigned. They also operate on forthcoming data not historic.
