The UpdraftPlus plugin may be used to obtain an instant backup of the files and database of a WordPress website.
UpdraftPlus is a popular WordPress backup plugin.
The real intent of the plugin is to make a regular backup of a website’s files and database. Backups can be stored on the server, within the website space, emailed or saved externally.
It also includes the option to make a backup on demand. It’s this which we shall be using.
Assuming that you have installed the UpdraftPlus plugin. Open it from below the Settings main menu.
Shown above is a fairly new install of the plugin. Currently with little use and new timed backups made.
The main purpose of this plugin is to perform timed backups to a variety of different storage services.
On this page you can configure which file sets you wish to backup.
Your selection here regards the files and their directories and characteristics will have a bearing on what will be save when doing the instant backup.
To make your instant backup. Open the Backup/Restore tab and click on the blue button for Backup Now.
Shown above is the popup window which offers the option to include files and the database in your instant backup.
Make your choices and click on the white Backup Now button.
Once your backup has been completed there is a new row entry, with buttons associated with the selections which you made in the Settings tab and the previous popup Take a new backup window.
For example if you chose to restrict backups of plugins then a backup won’t be made and the corresponding button missing in the row.
Click on each of the Backup data buttons in the row to download it.
As you would expect there’s a popup dialogue allowing the backup file to be downloaded, or opened.
Save the file locally, just in case it’s required.
