GTK based applications when viewed in KDE can look very ugly, with square, plain grey surrounds.
In Debian adding the kde-config-gtk-style package allows for the appearance of GTK applications to be configured.
Themes and icon sets can be downloaded and applied.
From the command line the package is added in the usual way using:
apt-get install kde-config-gtk-style
Once the package has been installed open System Settings, usually listed as one of the favourite items on the first menu screen, and select Application Appearance
On the left menu there will be the new option GTK. Click on this to open the configuration screen for GTK applications.
On the GTK configuration screen the theme and icon set can be chosen. New themes and icons can be downloaded.
