Shortly after completing the installation of a copy of Debian I had modified the default repository references within the sources.list file and deleted the entry for the CD-ROM.
Subsequently I found that I needed the CD-ROM reference again. It was a virtual machine which wasn’t connecting to the network. I wished to add some programs to help with the diagnosis.
As it was a virtual machine i was unable to copy the relevant text from another instance. I didn’t want to have to enter the full line of text, into the file sources.list file, located at
/etc/apt/sources.list
I found that there is a short code which can be used to add the CD-ROM reference line. Much easier to type and less chance of a typo mistake. The line can be added using the command
apt-cdrom add
The full entry of the sources.list file is given below, with the CD-ROM reference first:
